Those who know me, I love trees. I love trees so much it isn’t funny. I love how every single tree is completely different and there is not one exact tree that is the same. To enable a tree to grow, seeds need to be planted, watered, it needs light. I would go into all the details how trees grow in height from the meristems that are located at the branch tips; but I won’t and I will make it simple, if the roots aren’t deep enough, the tree won’t survive.

It is kinda the same for us, not one human is the same as another. We each have our own special features and personalities. We are all so different. For us to be able to grow physically, we have to eat and drink, to grow mentally and spiritually we need a firm foundation, we need to be planted in the right soil where we have enough room for our roots to grow. To be planted in good soil we are able to grow to our full potential.

When our roots are firm in our foundation in Jesus we are able to flourish, we are able to stand strong in every season we go through. If we hold onto God’s Word and if we are firm in our foundation we can still stay upright and not fall down even when everything around us is turning into crap.

Last year, I went to the YFC conference in Qld, Australia. My friend and I went exploring and we just stopped and looked out at the view. We had worship music playing and then all of a sudden I just started speaking. I was saying that all these trees that are in front of us were the people that are going to come to Christ and it is going to become a ripple effect. The trees behind us were the generations before us who have been praying for us, who have been impacting other people that have impacted us.

When temptation hits, when a big gust of wind hits you, when nothing seems to be going right for you, how do you respond? Do you crumble, or are your roots firmly planted into the ground that you can remain standing strong knowing that our Father in heaven has us, that He is protecting us and the more we press into Him the stronger our relationship with Him gets.
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.’ John 15:5

Currently I am watching The Vampire Diaries and this song starts playing, and the voice sounded really familiar and it turns out it was Matthew West and the song is called Family Tree. ThankYou God. Your family tree does not define you at all.

“You didn’t ask for this
Nobody ever would
Caught in the middle of this dysfunction
It’s your sad reality
It’s your messed up family tree
And now you’re left with all these questions

Are you gonna be like your father was and his father was?
Do you have to carry what they’ve handed down?”

Though you might wonder why you ended up in the family you are in, maybe you feel as if your parents don’t care for you, maybe your parents left you, maybe one of your parents left you, maybe you just have a messed up family and you feel as if it is your legacy to carry that. But your family is not who you are, you don’t have to be like your ‘family tree’. You are not defined by your family. God created you and He is calling out to you, He is your Father and He loves you. He knows your hurt, He knows your suffering but he doesn’t create the pain or the bad stuff but sometimes He lets you go through it, reasons that we will never understand but it can make us stronger and I know that for a fact. You are more, you are more than your family’s situation, you have a purpose and you are loved and chosen. It took me a while to learn who I am in Christ and I do not have to carry my family’s dysfunction, I do not have to be identified as the struggles that I have been through or what my family has been through. You are a new creation in Christ and He has given you a family, we are all sons and daughters of our Father.

‘I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
How precious to me are your thoughts, God!
How vast is the sum of them!
Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand— when I awake, I am still with you. ‘ Psalm 139:14-18

God created you before your parents knew you were alive, He has made you the way you are and He made you perfect in His eyes. God will never leave you and He has never left you. There is nothing that can separate us from His love, nothing you do can stop Him from loving you.

Be firm in His foundation, keep pressing into Him.
‘So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.’ Colossians 2:6-7

Trees are so beautiful, as each tree is different and unique, not one tree is the exact same, each has its unique features, it goes for you also. You are beautiful and you are unique.
