I’ve been seeing so many people defeated by what’s happening in the world, seeing so many people plagued by anxiety and fear all because of COVID-19 aka coronavirus. When I first heard about it, I thought it was a joke as it was around Australia Day and as Australians we all love to have a few coronas/beers to celebrate and there were A LOT of memes about it.
Here we are, 3 months later not even allowing to really leave the house unless for ‘essential travel’. In the space of 3 and a bit months I have moved from Darwin to now living in Brisbane with my Aunty and cousins and I am absolutely loving it. Although, this wasn’t what I had in mind (to not be able to work), maybe it’s exactly what I needed-to seek Jesus and build my foundation on His Word and to be steadfast. Times like these, we as Christians need to be the light of the world, we need to be strong in our foundation and we need all our hope stored in Jesus Christ.
‘“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.’ Matthew 5:14-16
Where are you going in this time? I’ve been finding myself praying for this nation, praying for this world more than ever before and it’s increasing my faith to really see the impossible happen. I’m seriously waiting for the next news report to announce that there’s been a miracle and there’s 0 cases of COVID-19. Imagine that!! Oh heck yeah!
‘Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’’ Isaiah 41:10
‘I sought the Lord , and He heard me, And delivered me from all my fears.’ Psalms 34:4
‘Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.’ Philippians 4:6-7
I’m praying that I will not be moved by fear but also to not act out in ignorance. I want to respond in wisdom and in love as Godly wisdom is love. James 3 talks about wisdom really well:
‘But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.’ James 3:17-18
I urge you to seek the Lord in how to respond to this pandemic, ask for His wisdom and He will gladly give it to you.
Fear is not of God and it is not how you should be responding to anything, God is a good good Father, He is peace, He is faithful, He is love and He is definitely not punishing us. Living in the new covenant means Jesus paid the ultimate price for our sins, when we have received Christ in our life by believing that Jesus is our Lord and Saviour, that He died and rose again, we then have been forgiven and cleansed by the blood of Jesus. We are adopted as sons and daughters in His Kingdom and if this is truth then we can know for sure that God isn’t punishing us by this craziness. Rest in the truth that God is a good God and that He is even greater than Coronavirus. He is greater than satan, the works of the enemy and He is greater than fear. If you are struggling with fear and anxiety, please seek the Lord, Jesus paid the price so we don’t have to be overcome by the spirit of fear, the spirit of anxiety. Jesus paid the price for you to be free, put your faith in Him today. Choose Him over fear. Faith will always triumph over fear.
Fear is not of you, anxiety is not of you. Be encouraged for the Lord your God is good and He has won. I can understand and sympathise with those who are struggling right now and feeling alone and down. Feeling isolated and scared for the future, those who are just struggling against your own mind. Only a few weeks ago I was in that place, in the place of feeling alone and confused. I had relapsed and absolutely hated everything about myself, I seriously just had no idea what to do and didn’t want to speak to anyone about it, I even convinced myself I had bipolar and a personality disorder. It was madness, but the thing was I HARDLY spent anytime with the Lord, I knew deep down that all I had to do was spend time with the King of Kings, my Saviour, my Father, my rock, all I had to do was be vulnerable with Him and change my thoughts, to remember His faithfulness, to remember His goodness, to recall on these things and be confident and believe in who He says He is and who He says I am. The moment I chose to do that, literally everything actually changed. I currently am just disciplining myself in spending time in the Word and in prayer and journalling. I’m also disciplining myself with exercise and really focusing on being healthy all round, mind, body and soul.
Some of the things I am doing to increase a healthier lifestyle are; eating better, going for a walk and run everyday, doing a home workout (which I make extremely fun), dancing, reading the Word, focusing my thoughts on good things (read my last blog Oh 2020 what the heck!), increasing in prayer and also spending quality time with my family that I’m living with. All these things have seriously increased my health already. So if you are struggling right now I pray that you would have peace in your heart and in your mind, that you would be able to turn your attention away from the media and turn it to your loving heavenly Father, that you would be able to shift your focus from fear to faith, that your eyes are set on the cross and the good plans that God has for you. May this time of being at home change from being bored, lonely, confusing to blessed, fun, and a new found joy in Christ. Dream with Him, dance with Him, sing with Him, renew your mind daily with His truths about Him and about you. I also pray that you would be able to find things to do that will rejuvenate yourself. Ask the Lord what you should do!!
Be quarantined in peace, in faith and in joy. May the peace of God which surpasses all understanding guard your hearts in this time (Philippians 4:7). Be excited for what is to come and jam out to your favourite songs. Watch some Hannah Montana and do the Hoedown Throwdown because that will for sure get you excited.
I also encourage you to listen to this song that Bethel has just release: Peace
